The shadow has been a recurring presence in my practice. The stark black shapes and ambiguous forms serve as a bridge between the natural world and the abstract domain that usually defines my work.
A recent interest in textile embroidery and embellishment caused me to examine the intricate embroidery of black work samplers. The all-over design, along with the positive/negative spatial shifts of these detailed black and white images became a positive starting point for some new pieces.
